Basketball Recap: North Newton's Luck Changes for the Better on Saturday

North Newton can bid farewell to their 14-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Saturday. They came out on top against the Attica Red Ramblers by a score of 43-32. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Spartans also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2024.

North Newton's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jackson Alexander, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 13 points. Alexander has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Jared Kutsch was another key player, putting up eight points and nine rebounds.

North Newton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Several Red Ramblers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Caiden Ashley, who posted 11 points. Another player making a difference was Ronnie Matthews, who had ten points.

North Newton's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-13. As for Attica, they dropped their record down to 1-10 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

North Newton will venture away from home to square off against Rensselaer Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. North Newton is facing Rensselaer Central at the right time seeing as Rensselaer Central is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Attica, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 74-44 win against GEO Next Generation on the 27th.
