Leon is 1-9 against the Indians since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Leon Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Groveton Indians at 7:30 p.m. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 12 consecutive losses for Leon and three for the Indians.
Leon pushed their score all the way to 55 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. Their rough 80-55 loss to Latexo might stick with them for a while.
Meanwhile, Groveton suffered a tough 65-42 loss at the hands of the Tigers on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Groveton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1403rd, while the Tigers are ranked 642nd).
Leon has been struggling recently as they've lost 15 of their last 16 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-19 record this season. As for Groveton, they dropped their record down to 6-15 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
Leon lost to the Indians on the road by a decisive 50-36 margin when the teams last played back in January. Can Leon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
