Rogers has gone 8-2 against Sumner recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Rams will be playing at home against the Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Rogers will be looking to extend their current 16-game winning streak.
Rogers had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 14-run drubbing they dealt Curtis on Friday. The Rams put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 15-1 win. Considering the Rams have won seven matchups by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Rogers got a massive performance out of Kelsey Vernon, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was Vernon's first of the season. MacKenzie Simon was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Rogers was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .586. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Sumner, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Emerald Ridge on Friday, sneaking past 6-5.
Josslyn Sorensen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Anna Thweatt was excellent, going 1-for-4 with four RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Naya Alastra, who went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Rogers pushed their record up to 17-1 with the victory, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Sumner, their victory bumped their record up to 9-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Rogers has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sumner struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Rogers came out on top in a nail-biter against Sumner in their previous matchup on April 4th, sneaking past 6-4. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
