The Shadow Mountain Matadors's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight defeat. They took a 71-53 bruising from Moon Valley. While losing is never fun, Shadow Mountain can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 267th, while the Rockets are ranked 133rd).
Shadow Mountain's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cory Lamb-Jones, who scored nine points along with six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Pierce Rogers, who scored six points along with eight rebounds.
Moon Valley had a senior duo take command as Damion Miller-Coleman almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine assists and Eddie Boone scored 24 points along with five rebounds and two steals. It was the first time this season that Miller-Coleman posted eight or more assists. Kevin Gray was another key contributor, scoring six points along with three steals.
Shadow Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 2-18. As for Moon Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-10 record this season.
Shadow Mountain does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Moon Valley also has no future games currently scheduled.
