The Graham-Kapowsin Eagles will take on the Curtis Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Graham-Kapowsin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
Last Friday, Graham-Kapowsin made easy work of Bonney Lake and carried off an 11-1 win. Considering the Eagles have won four matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Brooklyn Pettit made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on MaKena Rodgers, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Izzy Vargas, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Graham-Kapowsin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Curtis came up short against Olympia on Monday, falling 20-7. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Bears recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.
Melanie Spivey made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Soleil Sloboda, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Graham-Kapowsin is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Curtis, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.
Curtis' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Graham-Kapowsin has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .473. It's a different story for Curtis, though, as they've only averaged .326. Will they be able to contain Graham-Kapowsin's hitters?
Graham-Kapowsin took their win against Curtis in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 30-3 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
