South Vermillion has been on the road for three straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Edgewood Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
South Vermillion pushed their score all the way to 58 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Parke Heritage by a score of 61-58.
The losing side was boosted by Brayson Shoults, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 10 rebounds. He scored a full 31% of South Vermillion's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Dylan Conder, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Edgewood was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 50-46 to North Putnam. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Edgewood in their matchups with North Putnam: they've now lost three in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Mialin White, who scored 21 points. The matchup was his fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Reynolds, who scored 10 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 steals.
Their wins bumped South Vermillion to 2-1 and Parke Heritage to 3-1.
Friday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: South Vermillion have been dynamite from deep this season, having nailed 44.3% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Edgewood struggles in that department as they've made 43% of theirs this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. South Vermillion was able to grind out a solid victory over Edgewood when the teams last played back in March, winning 61-53. Will South Vermillion repeat their success, or does Edgewood have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
