After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Spring Garden, the Oxford Yellow Jackets were happy to have found some success on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 55-40 win over Fort Payne. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Oxford also won the last time the pair played last Tuesday.
Oxford's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Xaionna Whitfield led the charge by scoring 20 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Oxford is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a massive bump to their 15-13 record this season. As for Fort Payne, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 18-11 record this season.
Oxford will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against the Titans at 6:00 p.m. on February 5th. The timing is sure in Gadsden City's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while the Yellow Jackets have been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road. Fort Payne does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
