The South Pontotoc Cougars scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 76-54 margin over New Albany. Winning may never get old, but South Pontotoc sure is getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Braden Shettles, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds. Shettles is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kylan Lindsey, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds.
New Albany struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
South Pontotoc has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. As for New Albany, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-6.
South Pontotoc will square off against Potts Camp at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday. New Albany won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Byhalia at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Byhalia is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
