Softball Recap: Montrose Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Montrose won the last time they faced Basalt and things went their way on Saturday too. The Red Hawks were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the Longhorns. The result was nothing new for the Red Hawks, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

Bentley Schiller and Isabelle Mott made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Schiller struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Mott pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Schiller has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. At the plate, Schiller went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Mott went 2-for-4 with two triples, two RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave Mott a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jaytli Cannizzo was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Blacker, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Montrose was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The win was the third in a row for Montrose, bringing their record up to 9-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Basalt, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That lines up perfectly with their 4-12 record this season.

Montrose will have a chance to go back-to-back against Basalt: the pair will be back at it again later today.
