Softball Recap: Westlake Wins Going Away Against Starks

Westlake's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Starks Panthers. Considering the Rams have won six matchups by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Hallie Wilrye made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Wilrye was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Elaina Newman was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jaycie Powell, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

Westlake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Starks only posted an OBP of .318.

Westlake is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Starks, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Coming up, Westlake will be playing at home against St. Louis Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Saints' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Rams' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Starks, they will challenge South Cameron at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
