If The Bergenfield Bears were riding high off their 28-6 takedown of the NV - Demarest Norsemen last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Bergenfield took a 21-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pascack Valley on Friday. While losing is never fun, Bergenfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 210th, while Pascack Valley is ranked 80th).
Despite the loss, Bergenfield still got an impressive performance from Gabe Perez, who rushed for 113 yards on only eight carries, and also threw for 57 yards and a touchdown on only five passes. Perez's longest rush was for an incredible 73 yards.
Pascack Valley's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kevin Regula, who rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Another player making a difference was Adam Shaw, who threw for 38 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes.
Bergenfield has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. As for Pascack Valley, the win was the fourth in a row for they, bringing their record for this year to 6-2.
Bergenfield will head out on the road to face off against Orange at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Orange will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Pascack Valley will take on West Morris Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. West Morris Central is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
