The Newman Greenies will head out on the road to face off against Madison Prep Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Newman is ranked highly in their home state, and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of DeMatha. Newman fell 66-58 to DeMatha.
Despite the loss, Newman got a solid performance out of Christopher Cenac, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 21 rebounds. The contest was Cenac's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Sebastian Thrower, who scored 5 points.
Madison Prep Academy has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 37 points or more this season. They breezed by Parkway on the road to the tune of 83-46. Given Madison Prep Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while Parkway is ranked 143rd), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Their wins bumped Newman to 4-3 and DeMatha to 3-0.
Newman couldn't quite finish off Madison Prep Academy when the teams last played back in January and fell 50-48. Can Newman avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
