The Flanagan-Cornell Falcons had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 57-42 victory over Deer Creek-Mackinaw. Given Flanagan-Cornell's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 211th, while Deer Creek-Mackinaw is ranked 577th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Flanagan-Cornell was led to victory by Connor Reed and Kesler Collins. Reed scored 19 points, while Collins dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Reed has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Seth Jones, who scored seven points along with five steals.
Flanagan-Cornell has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Deer Creek-Mackinaw, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-14.
Flanagan-Cornell will square off against Tri-Valley at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Deer Creek-Mackinaw will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Cornerstone Christian at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th.
