Softball Recap: North Stanly Snags Sixth Victory in Last Seven Games

North Stanly won the last time they faced South Stanly and things went their way on Friday too. The Comets were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Rowdy Rebel Bulls. Considering the Comets have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Sophia Crist spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, North Stanly got a massive performance out of Breauna Speight, who scored three runs while going 4-for-4. What's more, Speight posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in February. Sammie Lowder was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

North Stanly was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Stanly only posted a batting average of .120.

North Stanly is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for South Stanly, they dropped their record down to 5-10 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Coincidentally, North Stanly and South Stanly will both be playing Gray Stone Day the next time they take the field. The Rowdy Rebel Bulls will host the Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, while the Comets will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
