It was a good run, but the Carrollton Trojans unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 69-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of Langston Hughes. Carrollton was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Leading Langston Hughes to victory were Jaron LeMelle and Brentis Schaeffer. LeMelle dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds, while Schaeffer scored 22 points. Schaeffer continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Walthour, who scored six points.
Carrollton dropped their record down to 15-7 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Langston Hughes, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Carrollton will take on the Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Westlake's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine contests. As for Langston Hughes, they and the Raiders will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. East Paulding will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 280th, while the Panthers are ranked 27th).
