At the plate, Mason Brewer stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he scored three runs while going 3-for-5. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Grayson Brooks, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3.
Even though they lost, Purnell Swett kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gray's Creek only managed three hits.
Meanwhile, North Brunswick had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They walked away with an 11-6 victory over the Bears.
North Brunswick let Jonah Campbell and Fisher Goodwin run wild. Campbell scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Goodwin went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Ryan Grisso was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
North Brunswick pushed their record up to 3-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Purnell Swett, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Purnell Swett has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like North Brunswick struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Purnell Swett couldn't quite finish off North Brunswick in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can Purnell Swett avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
