1A Western Slope recap October 8, 2013
T.J. Shelton of Meeker ran for the longest rushing play in 1A Western Slope this season against Paonia last week. Shelton scampered for 92 yards on the play and finished with 159 on the day as his team fell to the Eagles.
Jake Phelan and Raul Lopez provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Paonia. The longest such play in the league this season, the connection resulted in 96 yards.
River Panish made the biggest impact on defense this week as Hotchkiss topped Lake County. He nabbed 1 interception and grabbed 2 sacks.
Taylor Walters was a beast in the backfield as Brent McRae's team bested Meeker.
Phelan threw for 221 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Walters provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Eagles topped Shane Phelan's team. He completed 4 passes for 116 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 262 yards.
Walters was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 262 yards on 36 carries as Paonia lost to Paonia. Teammate Will Austin added to the ground attack by rushing for 120 yards.
The leading receiver in the league this season is Chris Allen. The Hotchkiss star has 19 catches for 265 yards.
An important game coming up in 1A Western Slope this week will be when Meeker takes on Cedaredge. At the moment, the Cowboys are in second, while the Bruins are in fourth.
The Bulldogs added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Panthers, 47-18. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
