The Weeki Wachee Hornets will head out to square off against the Central Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Weeki Wachee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Weeki Wachee needed a bit of extra time to put away The Villages Charter. They came out on top against the Buffalo by a score of 6-2.
Saul Melendez was excellent, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2025. Niko DiBenedetto also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Weeki Wachee kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Central, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Pasco 12-11 on Friday. The Bears' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
The team relied heavily on Brodee Haas, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Alex Mahaney, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Weeki Wachee's record is now 3-1. As for Central, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
Weeki Wachee's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Hornets have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Central, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Weeki Wachee continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Weeki Wachee's way against Central in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, as Weeki Wachee made off with a 6-0 win. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
