The Jamestown Red & Green will square off against the Frewsburg Bears at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Jamestown has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with nine straight losses, while Frewsburg will come in with nine straight wins.
Jamestown fell victim to Orchard Park and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 11-0 to the Quakers.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Frewsburg). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Westfield a 15-0 shutout on Wednesday. Considering the Bears have won ten contests by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Aidan Gruber made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Frewsburg got a massive performance out of Chase Haglund, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and four runs. That's the most runs Haglund has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Daniel Peterson, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Frewsburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in nine consecutive games.
Frewsburg pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Jamestown, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.
Jamestown couldn't quite get it done against Frewsburg when the teams last played back in April of 2023 as they fell 4-1. Can the Red & Green avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
