The Oxford Wolverines put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 23-20 victory over Crosby. For Oxford, this counts as revenge for the 18-14 defeat Crosby walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2022.
Matthew Mcguire looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 81 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries, while also picking up 62 receiving yards. Mcguire was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 64 yards.
When it comes to explaining why Crosby lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jeremiah Febus. Despite the final result, he rushed for 151 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries, and also threw for 208 yards and two touchdowns. Jireh Rawlison was another key contributor, picking up 112 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Oxford's victory was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 7-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 30.5 points per game. As for Crosby, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oxford will take on Torrington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Crosby, they will head out on the road to face off against Naugatuck at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Naugatuck knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matches -- so hopefully Crosby likes a good challenge.
