Kingsburg is a perfect 5-0 against Kerman since April of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Vikings will head out to challenge the Lions at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times Kingsburg and Selma had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Bears on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Vikings have won by exactly six runs.
Alyanna 'Yaya' Gonzales spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 16 Ks.
At the plate, Mariah Contreras was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Scarlett Laita also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Kerman, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They walked away with a 9-6 win over Reedley on Tuesday. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Eliza Garcia looked comfortable as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kymberly Higuerada, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayanna Gonzales, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Kerman pushed their record up to 9-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Kingsburg, their record is now 9-11.
Kingsburg beat Kerman 5-0 in their previous matchup on April 1st. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
