The Northside Mustangs will take on the Westinghouse Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Northside has three straight wins, Westinghouse has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Friday, Northside made easy work of Steinmetz College Prep and carried off a 19-4 victory. Considering the Mustangs have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Isaac Reyes, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Liam Schorr, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Northside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Steinmetz College Prep only posted an OBP of .450.
Meanwhile, Westinghouse fell victim to Lake View and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Wildcats, falling 15-0. The match marked the first time this season in which the Warriors were not able to get on the board.
Northside's win bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Westinghouse, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
Westinghouse's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Northside hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .346. It's a different story for Westinghouse, though, as they've only averaged .200. Will they be able to contain Northside's hitters?
Northside took their victory against Westinghouse in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 14-4 score. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
