Make it nine blowout wins for the Dominion Academy Sabers this season. They took their contest at home on Saturday with ease, bagging a 56-18 victory over East Dayton Christian. The victory was familiar territory for Dominion Academy who now have five in a row.
Dominion Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tessa Merkel, who scored ten points along with four steals. Merkel has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Zink, who scored six points along with five rebounds and five steals.
When it comes to explaining why East Dayton Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ava Baker. Despite the final result, she scored eight points along with 12 rebounds and five steals. Baker is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played.
Dominion Academy pushed their record up to 10-2 with that victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 34.3 points. As for East Dayton Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dominion Academy's homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on January 27th. The two teams have allowed few points on average, (Calvary Christian: 27.9, the Sabers: 27.8) so any points scored will be well earned. As for East Dayton Christian, they will be playing at home against the Jaguars at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Shroder Paideia Academy has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 8.
