The Sweetwater Red Devils will face off against the Southwest SD Raiders at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Sweetwater will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs last Friday, then bounced right back against Montgomery on Tuesday. The Red Devils were the clear victors by a 22-5 margin over the Aztecs. The win continues a trend for the Red Devils in their matchups with the Aztecs: they've now won seven in a row.
Meanwhile, Southwest SD got the win against Monte Vista on Saturday by a conclusive 17-1.
Daniela Nieto and Sophia Borquez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Nieto pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Meanwhile, Borquez struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Nieto went 3-for-5 with seven RBI, one triple, and one double, while Borquez went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave Borquez a new career-high.
In other batting news, Southwest SD got a massive performance out of Aketzalli Rodriguez, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, one triple, and one double. Those four hits gave Rodriguez a new career-high. Samantha Ramirez was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Southwest SD always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in eight consecutive matchups.
Southwest SD is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Sweetwater, their win bumped their record up to 12-2-1.
Sweetwater took their victory against Southwest SD in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 16-6 score. Do the Red Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
