The William Penn Charter Quakers will head out on the road to square off against the Baldwin Bears at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ellie McKernan was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. Madison Wray also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Baldwin hadn't done well against Academy-Notre Dame De Namur recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Bears blew past Academy-Notre Dame De Namur 15-5. Fans of the Bears have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Jules Torres made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addison Milner, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Milner is crushing it when it comes to RBI: she's brought in at least three every time she's taken the field this season. Bella Murray was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
Baldwin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Baldwin's record now sits at 3-0. As for William Penn Charter, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. William Penn Charter has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .448. However, it's not like Baldwin struggles in that department as they've averaged .475. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
William Penn Charter came up short against Baldwin in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, falling 4-1. Can the Quakers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
