The Boone Braves came tearing into Monday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Downey Christian by a score of 52-39. Given Boone's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while Downey Christian is ranked 280th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Boone got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Danika Ballard out in front who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Ballard is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Mckenna Murphy, who scored ten points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Boone pushed their record up to 14-3 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Downey Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Boone on the road again on Wednesday and play against Master's Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th. As for Downey Christian, they will challenge Varsity Opponent at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday.
