Riley Sutton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Railee Winter was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Rosewood came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Spartans get on the board and left with a 26-0 win. Considering the Eagles have won 12 contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Union's batters probably weren't too happy with McCandless St John, who pitched a no hitter and racked up nine Ks (she gave up zero walks).
Rosewood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .912. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Rosewood's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.7 runs over those games. As for Wayne Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wayne Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Rosewood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Wayne Christian suffered a grim 12-1 defeat to Rosewood when the teams last played back in March. Can Wayne Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
