The Porter Ridge Pirates will challenge the Mallard Creek Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Porter Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with five defeats in a row dating back to last season, Porter Ridge turned things around against South Stanly on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Rowdy Rebel Bulls 9-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since April 23, 2024.
Mylen Cadiang was a standout: she scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4. She also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Emma Daniels, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Porter Ridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mallard Creek). They put the hurt on West Charlotte with a sharp 22-12 win on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Mavericks needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Madison Williams and Alondra Rivera-Maldonado made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Williams struck out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Rivera-Maldonado struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run but no hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. At bat, Williams scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-6, while Rivera-Maldonado scored five runs and stole a base while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances.
In other batting news, Morgan Lampkin was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs. Mena Kuzara was another key player, scoring five runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-6.
Mallard Creek moved to 2-4 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Porter Ridge, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
Everything went Porter Ridge's way against Mallard Creek in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Porter Ridge made off with a 10-0 victory. Will Porter Ridge repeat their success, or does Mallard Creek have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
