Two dominant guards in Vinny Gonzales and Aiden Rollins are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Elk Grove Thundering Herd will head out on the road to face off against the Franklin Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Elk Grove focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Monday.
Elk Grove pushed their score all the way to 65, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 75-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sheldon. While losing is never fun, Elk Grove can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 506th, while Sheldon is ranked 62nd).
Despite the loss, Elk Grove had strong showings from Gonzales, who scored 13 points, and KyRee Fultz, who scored 11 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Franco Ghio, who scored seven points.
Meanwhile, even though Cosumnes Oaks scored an imposing 68 points on Wednesday, Franklin still came out on top. Franklin took their match against Cosumnes Oaks 81-68. Franklin pushed the score to 62-39 by the end of the third, a deficit Cosumnes Oaks cut but never quite recovered from.
Elk Grove has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-16 record this season. As for Franklin, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 21-6.
Elk Grove and Franklin were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in January, but Elk Grove came up empty-handed after a 65-64 defeat. Can Elk Grove avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
