Basketball Recap: Whitehorse's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

After flying high against Telos last Saturday, Whitehorse came back down to earth. The Whitehorse Raiders fell just short of the Monticello Buckaroo by a score of 56-53 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Raiders have suffered since March 1st.

Several Raiders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Adam Joe, who posted 13 points. The dominant performance gave Joe a new career-high in points. Hyatt Thomas was another key player, putting up ten points.

Monticello's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Traken Lee led the charge by going 5 of 9 on his way to 21 points along with eight boards and three steals. Lee's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Pehrson, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 14 points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Whitehorse moved to 4-4 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for Monticello, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

After both having extra time off, Whitehorse and Green River will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Whitehorse is facing Green River at the right time seeing as Green River is stuck on a five-game losing streak. Monticello has already played their next match, a 57-33 win against Dove Creek on the 20th.
