Baseball Recap: Charlotte Catholic Gets the Win

Charlotte Catholic won against Charlotte Latin last Thursday with six runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Charlotte Catholic Cougars had just enough and edged out the Christ the King Crusaders 6-4. This was payback for the Cougars, who suffered a 6-4 loss the last time these two teams met.

Alex Hoffman was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.

In other pitching news, Will O'Rourke looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Hoffman wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Paul Greeley, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Greeley has posted since back in April of 2024.

The victory made it two in a row for Charlotte Catholic and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Christ the King, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cougars challenge the Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup will give Charlotte Catholic their first taste of in-conferenceaction this season. As for Christ the King, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Pine Lake Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be Pine Lake Prep's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
