The Statesboro Blue Devils waltzed into their game on Saturday with 12 straight wins but they left with 13. They secured a 59-54 W over Jenkins. Given Statesboro's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while Jenkins is ranked 255th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Reya Johnson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 25 points along with five assists and five rebounds. She hasn't dropped below 15points for seven straight games. Alyssa Staten was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Jenkins saw an underclassman step up: Aniyah Browner scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Browner has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aliyah Frazier, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Statesboro's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.8 points per game. As for Jenkins, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8.
Statesboro will head out on the road to challenge Bradwell Institute at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Bradwell Institute focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 44 on Friday. As for Jenkins, they will be playing at home against Ware County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
