Two dominant backs in Adam Hill and Anthony Powell are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Albany Lions will square off against the Celeste Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Albany will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
With a playoff game on the line, Albany rose to the challenge on Thursday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 60-0 victory over Eldorado. Albany might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won eight matches by 27 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Hill, who rushed for 153 yards and five touchdowns on only 13 carries. Hill was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards. Meanwhile, Celeste put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Seymour 41-12 on the road. The score was close at the half, but Celeste pulled away in the second half with 34 points.
Celeste's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Powell, who rushed for 168 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.8 yards per carry. Powell is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last nine games he's played. Brock Stewart was another key contributor, rushing for 80 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries.
Albany pushed their record up to 11-0 with that win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 47 points. As for Celeste, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Albany has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 261.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Celeste struggles in that department as they've been even better at 293.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
