6A Region 1 recap September 10, 2013
Tripp Cobb and Wil Young provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Bryant. The longest such play in 6A Region 1 this season, the connection resulted in 70 yards.
Davidson was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in the league. The Warriors beat Baker 14-13 earlier in the week.
Kameron Maye was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 211 yards on 17 carries as Murphy topped Theodore. DePriest Turner also contributed to the rushing game with 165 yards on the ground.
Turner provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Panthers defeated the Bobcats. Turner's favorite target this week was Maye, who caught 6 passes for 98 yards.
Harry Satterwhite put up the best numbers through the air as McGill-Toolen topped the Hurricanes. He finished with 20 completions for 189 yards. Satterwhite's favorite target this week was Young, who caught 3 passes for 93 yards.
Tony Bridges was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Yellowjackets beat Bryant. The 5-foot-9 defensive back pulled down 2 interceptions.
Maye was a force in the backfield as Murphy defeated Theodore.
Maye was the best receiver in 6A Region 1 this week as Ronn Lee's team topped Eric Collier's team. Albert Howard helped Murphy's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 41 yards.
McGill-Toolen's Satterwhite and Young have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Satterwhite has thrown for 457 yards this season, while Young has 5 catches for 178 yards. Turner from the Panthers leads the league in rushing with 317 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Murphy takes on Davidson. As it stands, the Panthers are in first, while Fred Riley's team is in fifth.
Blount scaled the state rankings by moving to 41 from 67 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Leopards climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Montgomery 26-6.
