Softball Recap: Wednesday's Defeat Ends New Riegel's Winning Streak

New Riegel dropped their record down to 11-3 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Calvert Senecas by a score of 3-2. The Blue Jackets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Senecas earlier this season, when they won 4-3.

As for Calvert, their victory was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games.

For Calvert's part, Ava Eilrich spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up ten Ks. Eilrich has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kaleigh Concepcion was excellent, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison King, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. New Riegel will take on rival St. Joseph Central Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Calvert is set to challenge their familiar foe Danbury at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
