Nelson are taking a road trip to take on the Central Catholic Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Nelson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Nelson's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over David Douglas. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Nelson.
Ellie Nix was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Abigail Huspek was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Nelson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Central Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Sandy. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Rams have suffered since May 2, 2024.
Olivia Pompetti was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Portland Razo, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Nelson's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-8. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Central Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
Nelson might still be hurting after the 14-0 loss they got from Central Catholic when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can Nelson avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
