NSU University's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. Logan Hallaran looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts.
On the hitting side, Griffin Pomper was a standout: he scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Landon Combs was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Nova was not the first on the board on Thursday, but they got there more often. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Mater Lakes Academy 5-4. That's two games straight that the Titans have won by just one run.
Jaiden Delgado made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one double.
In other batting news, Angelo Rivas was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Cody Kunca, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Nova was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mater Lakes Academy only posted a batting average of .214.
NSU University's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Nova, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-6.
Monday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. NSU University has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .507. However, it's not like Nova struggles in that department as they've averaged .435. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went NSU University's way against Nova in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as NSU University made off with an 8-0 win. Does NSU University have another victory up their sleeve, or will Nova turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
