The Northern Garrett Huskies will head out on the road to challenge the Meyersdale Red Raiders at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Northern Garrett 2.2, Meyersdale 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Meyersdale will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Northern Garrett extended their winning streak to four on Thursday. The Huskies put the hurt on Southern with a sharp 9-3 win. Considering the Huskies have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Robert Deatelhauser looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jake Chambers was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Wally Brands, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Northern Garrett kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Meyersdale hadn't done well against Southern recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Red Raiders' pitcher stepped up to hand the Rams a 5-0 shutout. Winning may never get old, but the Red Raiders sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Dylan Teets made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, earning two RBI and one run.
Teets wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cole Yoder, who went 3-for-4 with one run.
Meyersdale pushed their record up to 5-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Northern Garrett, their record now sits at 8-1.
Meyersdale's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Northern Garrett has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .469. It's a different story for Meyersdale, though, as they've only averaged .357. Will they be able to contain Northern Garrett's hitters?
Northern Garrett beat Meyersdale 7-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Huskies since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
