Franklin has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Mexia Black Cats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Franklin fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Westwood on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 85-83. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Tuesday (66), Franklin still had to take the loss.
Meanwhile, Mexia entered their tilt with Groesbeck with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Mexia breezed by Groesbeck at home to the tune of 79-40. Given Mexia's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 381st, while Groesbeck is ranked 1469th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Franklin's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-8. As for Mexia, they pushed their record up to 17-10 with that win, which was their 17th straight at home.
Franklin and Mexia were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, but Franklin came up empty-handed after a 53-52 loss. Can Franklin avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
