Bishop Brossart and Scott are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Mustangs are taking a road trip to face off against the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
Bishop Brossart came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 13-3 to Boone County.
Rachel Shewmaker was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Scott made easy work of Holy Cross on Friday and carried off an 8-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won four in a row.
Scarlett Cochran spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ashlyn Riley was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Elise Manhardt, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Scott's victory bumped their record up to 10-16-1. As for Bishop Brossart, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 18-13 record this season.
Scott's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bishop Brossart has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. It's a different story for Scott, though, as they've only averaged .360. Will they be able to contain Bishop Brossart's hitters?
Bishop Brossart skirted past Scott 11-10 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
