West Brunswick and Ashley are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The West Brunswick Trojans will venture away from home to take on the Ashley Screaming Eagle at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. West Brunswick has given up an average of 7.2 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
West Brunswick is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 17 runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Laney on Tuesday. They came up short against the Buccaneers, falling 14-1. The contest marked the Trojans' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
West Brunswick saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kady Long, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Long also put up a double, which was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Ashley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat dating back to last season. They fell 12-8 to Swansboro. One positive for the Screaming Eagle, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.
Sawyer Rigdon and Vayda LeQuire did some serious damage despite the final result: Rigdon scored a run while going 2-for-4, while LeQuire scored a run while going 2-for-4.
With the loss, West Brunswick broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Ashley, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
Ashley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: West Brunswick has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Ashley, though, as they've been averaging 9.8 hits. Given West Brunswick's sizable advantage in that area, Ashley will need to find a way to close that gap.
West Brunswick suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Ashley in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can West Brunswick avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
