The Calvary Christian Academy Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the King's Academy Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Calvary Christian Academy barely beat Taravella the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles' pitcher stepped up to hand the Trojans a 6-0 shutout on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won three in a row.
The result came thanks to Blake Sundberg's shutout, as he gave up just two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Calvary Christian Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Preston Bielec, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Salvador Lopez was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, it may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but King's Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Saint Andrew's 2-1. The victory was familiar territory for the Lions, who have now won three games in a row.
Alexander Hansen tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk).
At the plate, Nolan Payne and Alec Cabrera did most of the damage at the plate: Payne went 2-for-4 with one triple and one stolen base, while Cabrera got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one double and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Strompf, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Calvary Christian Academy now has a winning record of 9-8-3. As for King's Academy, their record is now 12-4.
Calvary Christian Academy was able to grind out a solid win over King's Academy in their previous meeting back in March, winning 5-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
