The Hayfork Timberjacks will face off against the Maxwell Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hayfork is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.6 points per game this season.
Hayfork is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Trinity just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They were beaten by the Wolves 75-48. The Timberjacks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-22.
Despite the loss, Hayfork had strong showings from Levi Cavalli, who went 7-for-16 on his way to 20 points and five steals, and Tatem Wiley, who almost dropped a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds. That was a full 41.7% of the Timberjacks' points, marking the fourth time in a row Cavalli has posted more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Maxwell faced off against Portola on Friday. The Panthers walked away with a 60-48 win over the Tigers. The game was the first time the Panthers have beaten the Tigers on their court since January 18, 2019.
Maxwell's win came from a few key players that Hayfork will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Tanner Vierra, who earned 19 points and seven boards. Another player making a difference was Levi Velasquez, who had 12 points and five rebounds.
Maxwell was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2025.
Maxwell's victory bumped their record up to 11-13. As for Hayfork, their defeat dropped their record down to 20-9.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Hayfork has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 23.7 boards per game. However, it's not like Maxwell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Hayfork didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Maxwell when the teams last played back in December of 2025, but they still walked away with a 62-58 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was the Panthers' Vincent Orozco, who scored 24 points along with six boards and four steals. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Timberjacks still be able to contain Orozco? There's only one way to find out.
