The Springwood Wildcats were the 56-55 winner over the Valiant Cross Academy Warriors when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Springwood was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 54-53 to Valiant Cross Academy. Springwood has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.
Despite the loss, Springwood still got an impressive performance from Greg Johnson, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Johnson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Panos Pananis, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Deshawn Hall continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Valiant Cross Academy, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 17 rebounds. Hall is crushing the point category: he's posted at least 16 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jordan Archie, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Springwood's defeat dropped their record down to 20-6. As for Valiant Cross Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 21-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Springwood's road trip will continue as they head out to face Bessemer Academy at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. One thing working in Bessemer Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven games. As for Valiant Cross Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Fort Dale Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fort Dale Academy will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Valiant Cross Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
