The Grayslake Central Rams will face off against the Mundelein Mustangs at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Grayslake Central will bounce into Saturday's game after beating Wauconda, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Rams came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bulldogs on Thursday, sneaking past 12-10. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rams.
The team relied heavily on Autumn Aliff, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Andrews, who went 1-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mundelein). They never let Waukegan get on the board and left with a 16-0 win on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won six in a row.
Claire Connelly was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Kieley Tomas was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Mundelein was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .326 or higher in five consecutive matches.
Mundelein's win bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Grayslake Central, their victory bumped their record up to 7-4.
Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Grayslake Central has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .462. However, it's not like Mundelein struggles in that department as they've averaged .455. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Grayslake Central couldn't quite get it done against Mundelein in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 8-3. Will the Rams have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
