Chester is 8-2 against Sparta since February of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Chester Yellowjackets will head out on the road to face off against the Sparta Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Saturday, it was a hard-fought game, but Chester had to settle for a 66-63 defeat against DuQuoin.
Meanwhile, Sparta scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They really took it to Dupo for the full four quarters, racking up a 91-26 win on the road. Winning may never get old, but Sparta sure is getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Sparta got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Dariontez Monroe out in front who scored 13 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Marcell Spivey, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds.
Chester's loss dropped their record down to 11-14. As for Sparta, they pushed their record up to 18-9 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Chester couldn't quite finish off Sparta in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 and fell 50-47. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Monroe, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds. Now that Chester knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
