The Burns Bulldogs had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 45.8 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Cherryville 58-7 on the road. With Burns ahead 44-7 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Ben Mauney continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 346 yards and six touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes. Jeremiah Norris also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Burns' win was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-8 Forestview and 2-7 Cherryville (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 30.6% over those games). As for Cherryville, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Burns will take on Shelby at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. Shelby is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Cherryville, they will head out on the road to face off against Bessemer City at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. Bessemer City is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
