The Rifle Bears suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 61-10 loss at the hands of Delta. While losing is never fun, Rifle can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 262nd, while Delta is ranked 61st).
Millie Miller was Rifle's leading scorer, having posted four points.
Zoe Hisel held things down on the boards with six rebounds.
Delta's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Taylor Somers, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. Somers hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. Breezy Huff was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with eight rebounds and five steals.
Rifle has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for Delta, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rifle will challenge Coal Ridge at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Coal Ridge is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak. As for Delta, they will head out on the road to face off against Moffat County at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Moffat County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Friday.
