The Gunnison Valley Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their ninth straight loss. They were outmatched by North Summit on the road and fell 70-26. Gunnison Valley was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-4.
Despite the defeat, Gunnison Valley saw an underclassman step up: Rylee Bartholomew scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. That was a full 50% of Gunnison Valley's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Gunnison Valley struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Hartlynn Richins was her usual excellent self, scoring 13 points along with nine assists and seven rebounds for North Summit. Another player making a difference was Hayzlyn Murdock, who scored 14 points.
Gunnison Valley dropped their record down to 3-13 with that defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road. As for North Summit, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gunnison Valley will take on San Juan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. San Juan is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. North Summit won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Beaver at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Beaver is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
