The Carmel Corsairs were the 50-47 winner over the Mt. Vernon Rams when they last played one another back in December of 2017, but their luck changed this time around. Carmel fell 51-42 to Mt. Vernon on Friday. While losing is never fun, Carmel can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 254th, while Mt. Vernon is ranked 53rd).
Mt. Vernon was led to victory by David Barnes and Navontae D nesbit jr.. Barnes scored 19 points along with five rebounds, while D nesbit jr. scored 18 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which D nesbit jr. has scored at least 25% of Mt. Vernon's points.
Carmel's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Mt. Vernon, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 11-2.
Carmel won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Glenwood on December 30, 2023. Mt. Vernon and Marist will face off at 12:30 p.m. on December 30, 2023 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Marist knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven games -- so hopefully Mt. Vernon likes a good challenge.
